What should I keep doing with the Leader Letter?
(selection of representative comments)
- The Leader Letter demonstrates one of your key principles of leadership - consistency to a set of values. I enjoy the brief reminders of your books and often share quotes with others. Saves reading the whole book again to find that precious point. Also the style is light and breezy even though you are dealing with serious life issues. Keep it up.
- I like the shorter email with the links to the specific topics. I am also a real quote fan - I find them very inspirational.
- Keep it real - real life experiences or stories that reflect the concepts you discuss. The best feature of your writing is the relationship between what happens in the real world and the theory of improvements.
- Keep doing what you're doing; it's awesome! However, I would agree that you should keep trying to shorten articles as much as possible.
- My favourite part is the reprint and share statement. It is nice to not have to worry about copyright when you want to share words of wisdom.
- Keep sending the good advice and coaching. The motivation and consistent reinforcement is what keeps me coming back for more.
- Maintain 'meaty' subject matter on leadership; the letter is refreshingly lacking in typical 'overkill' of merchandise promotion, etc. The internet should still be considered a haven for 'freeware' - If the content excites me enough, I will eventually pay for more. Your letter/site still maintains this tradition, and does not attempt to tease me that if I want to read more of an article you've posted, I have to post my credit card to get it, etc. Finally, I love the availability of the PDF format for printing off articles, etc.
- Keep going; possibly add job posting links where one might find a non-dysfunctional place to work!
- Keep it short, quick to read but give me links so I can read more when I am keen on a subject.
- I really relate to life situations. They really help in the day-to-day issues that come up.
What should I stop doing with the Leader Letter?
(selection of representative comments)
- It appears that everyone who reads the Leader Letter gets some value from them. Thus, I find the reader comments redundant.
- Nothing too different - but survey as you are doing now at least annually.
- Holiday pics - they're OK but it just makes me envious, I must need a holiday!!!
- We really don't need all the graphics, just the facts please.
- Sometimes feels like too much advertising but also understand that is the purpose so I would change nothing.
- Too long, please make it short. Your books are a great model for short, impactful messages with great quotes.
- I really prefer you keep it just as it is.
- Sometimes your articles are too short so that I have to look for more...
- Abbreviated extracts that don't tell much - be generous, make them slightly longer!
- Make it a little briefer and with less pictures. Your writing style is great, so don't change how you are presenting the material.
What should I start doing with the Leader Letter?
(selection of representative comments)
- Give bio's of success stories. Who are the leaders of industry today and how did they reach the top.
- I'd like to see more tips about how to fix a struggling team.
- Link to an index of past articles, etc. for quick reference.
- A more step-by-step approach should be implemented in your advisory articles. It is one thing to tell someone what to do but some people would like to know how to get there.
- My only suggestion is maybe to include links to product purchases on-line. Make the letter kind of one-stop.
- How about a Question & Answer section, or frequently asked questions on a variety of topics.
- Case studies and real life leadership moments.
- Perhaps link around a theme occasionally/quarterly. More quotable quotes.
- Often great leaders are not the most visible ones, so many of us do not see of hear much of their techniques. As you have a lot of exposure to traits of some of the lesser known leaders perhaps a quarterly or twice yearly segment featuring a leader would awake some retrospect on ourselves. Have a segment to ask for innovative things the readers may be doing and then report the feedback in the next issue.
- I take advantage of your reprint and share offer and excerpt individual articles from the newsletter for circulation to colleagues (easier than your forward feature). It would be nice to be able to download each article individually complete with the permission paragraph in PDF form or even as HTML to be included in an intranet web site.
Thanks to everyone who participated, and congratulations to the winners drawn from all of the survey participants!
